Project idea
There are things that have long ceased to be just things. Oleg Blokhin’s “Ballon d’Or” is one of such objects.
An award that fixed the moment when Ukrainian football first sounded at the global level. Today it is no longer a trophy - it is an artifact. And when it comes to an artifact, the question is not what to put it in, but how to handle it.
Task
It was necessary to create a case that not only protects, but properly holds the object during transportation, storage, and public presentation.
On the one hand, precise engineering: to take into account the shape, weight, center of balance. On the other hand, a sense of level: materials, the behavior of the case in the hands.
Challenge
Working with a historical award is always about limitations. It is impossible to test again. It is impossible to allow even minimal risk.
Key challenges of the project:
- precise fixation of the object without pressure on delicate elements
- protection from vibrations and micro-impacts during transportation
- stability of the structure under repeated use
- durability of materials without loss of shape and properties
A separate level of complexity is the balance between the rigidity of the structure

Solution
BOXO developed a custom case in which each element has a specific function and works to protect the object.
- Body made of laminated plywood — a material that performs well in strength and stability of geometry.
- Aluminum profile along the perimeter — for reinforcing the corners and protection from impacts.
- Internal insert made of foamed polyethylene — a material that absorbs loads and does not deform over time.
- Hardware designed for intensive use and reliable fixation during transportation.
The internal part of the case is designed for the specific shape of the award, taking into account support points, weight distribution, and movement scenarios. The object does not simply lie in the case — it is fixed in a stable position without risk of displacement.
Result
The case ensures safe transportation and stable storage of the award without risk of displacement or damage. It withstands regular use and at the same time remains visually neutral — it does not distract from the object itself, but works for it.
